Why I Help Others

People often ask me why I spend so much time helping others in the maker space. It’s a fair question, so I’d like to share my story.

Why not?
To me, sharing knowledge is simple and rewarding. If you can teach someone how to fish, so to speak, they’ll thrive and do great things. I genuinely believe that’s part of our purpose—to share what we know and lift each other up.

Where it started
My mission began with a sermon on New Year’s Day at New Hope Church in Houston. Pastor Tim delivered a unique perspective on resolutions. Instead of focusing on what you’re bad at or what you’ve always wanted to do, he encouraged us to “perfect what you’re already good at and use it to give back to your community.”

That message struck a chord. At the time, I was working in woodworking and vinyl crafting—things I loved and was good at. Inspired by his words, I decided to lean into my strengths, hone my skills, and use them to help others.

5 years later
I’ve since built a business from scratch and have had the privilege of helping others grow theirs. I believe there’s room for everyone in this space. The key is finding your lane, giving it your all, and learning from your mistakes. Not everyone will succeed in this industry, but even those who move on can carry their lessons into their next venture.

What I’ve learned along the way is that this community is full of incredible makers who share the same goals: to master their craft and build something meaningful. That’s why I do it—to give back, to help others, and to be part of something bigger than myself.

Looking ahead
I encourage you to think about what you want your 2025 New Year’s resolution to be. Make it more than just something like “eat less sweets.” Let’s be real—we know your ass is gonna eat them by March anyway. Instead, focus on something bigger. What are you already good at? How can you use it to make a difference for yourself and your community?
